Mally Beauty Evercolor Poreless Face Defender Review

“Mally’s Evercolor Poreless face Defender is the perfect finishing touch for your Makeup look. This remarkable technology yields a waterclear, featherweight product that diffuses the look of pores and fine lines, helps makeup last and last, and helps protect your makeup look. Finishes a look, mattifies and smoothes, without the dry, ashy look of powder. Apply with the uniquely luxurious buffed edge Japanese sponge.”

I have been using Mally’s Evercolor Poreless Face Defender for several weeks now. It’s completely colorless, and the best way I can describe its texture is that it feels similar to a silica based primer. I’ve tried it with several different foundations. I find that it works better with liquid foundations, rather than creams and mousses. With liquid foundations I find that it works at mattifying and staving off oil longer, but even with liquid I find that after several hours I do need a touch up because I have become oily. With liquid foundation Mally’s Face Defender works beautifully. I apply it by patting it over my makeup when I’m finished and immediately get a flawless matte finish, and it works to diffuse any areas where I have larger pores.  I really like the look that I get from Mally’s Evercolor Poreless Face Defender, but as I have oily skin and tend to get even oilier in the humid Summer months, I feel like it would last longer and work better for me in the Winter and Spring.

Using the Poreless Face Defender with cream and mouse foundations I find I become oily faster than with liquid and when I reapply no matter how gingerly I pat the Face Defender on it tends to take off a good deal of makeup.
That being said, I have one gripe about the Evercolor Poreless Face Defender and that is the sponge. While the shape of the sponge is awesome the fact that it is pretty big and doesn’t fit into the compact is terrible. With oily and acne prone skin the last thing I want is my sponge just floating around my purse and makeup bag. Why oh Why, Mally? I’m sure making the compact large enough to fit the sponge would make it bulky, maybe keep the shape  of the sponge but make it thinner and fit it into the compact?

Other than my dislike of not being able to fit the sponge into the compact, I think the Poreless Face Defender does a great job at giving my skin a really great flawless appearance as well a mattifying my face very well.

Mally BeautyEvercolor Poreless Face Defender retails for $40 and can be purchased at mallybeauty.com as well as QVC.

Summer 2012 Beautyfix Review

I was lucky enough to get a review for the Summer Beautyfix shipment, and I am so glad I did because while I loved it before it has gotten so much better. Well, at least it seems that way to me. The last time I reviewed which was last Sept. 2011, Beautyfix offered makeup but there were more skin care products to choose from then cosmetics. This time there were a lot more makeup products mixed in.

Beautyfix a service from the Dermstore offers up to $400 in Beauty products for only $49.99+free shipping. Products are chosen for you by a panel of experts after you take a quick survey.  What sets it apart from other beauty subscription services is that while a panel of experts choose products they think would best suit you and your needs, YOU get to pick from a large list of those products. So you're never disappointed and stuck with products you won't use. Beautyfix only ships seasonally, four times a year. Once signed up you will get billed automatically for each new shipment. You can cancel or suspend your subscription any time you would like with a simple phone call.

So what was in my Beautyfix box this time?

  • Stila: Set & Correct $34
  • Raw Natural Minerals: in Warm Glow $25
  • Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper: in Milan $25
  • Skindinavia Finishing Spray: $29
  • Bare Ease Prep Kit: $25
  • Batiste Dry Shampoo: $3.99
  • Juice Beauty Oil Free Moisturizer Sample: Approx Value: $14
  • Becca Resurfacing Primer Sample: Approx Value: $15
Total Value: $170.99!
Now that is a value! $170 worth of product for $50 and that doesn't include the value of the cosmetic bag that always comes complimentary with your Beautyfix shipments. I love everything I chose and I cannot wait to try everything out.
To sign up to receive Beautyfix, head to there website: beautyfix.com

Mally Beauty Shimmer, Shape and Glow Review

Since having the opportunity to review some products from Mally Beauty several months ago.  Mally’s products have quickly become some of my favorite and most reached for beauty products. She really knows what works and what is flattering for everyone. Along with products that are flattering she ALWAYS has a demo video for every product with the best ways to apply and use her products, which I love! I love beauty products but I’m no expert and I appreciate Mally’s help.  My newest love from Mally Beauty? Mally’s Shimmer, Shape and Glow in Life is Lighter.

“This is the secret that all Mally’s celebrity clients swear by! “That thing” that Mally does that gives the superstar glow. The first Powder lifts and illuminates the cheekbones giving you the bone structure that you have always dreamed of. The second powder softly contours making you look like you lost 5 lbs. And the last powder makes you look like you had a beautifully romantic evening.”
Shimmer, Shape, Glow

Using contour is something that I’ve only been doing for about a year, and in that year I’ve tried many different contouring powders, usually a deep brown color that I have to blend out because otherwise it looks like huge dark line on my face.  Even after blending sometimes I feel self conscious about it because I wasn’t sure whether I was using the right shade.  With Mally’s Shimmer, Shape and Glow, There are different shades meant for different skin tones, a set in peach tones, and another set in pinks.  Being used to the darker contouring shades I wasn’t sure about the contouring shade in the Life is Lighter compact, it is a very soft brown color and my first thought was “well this isn’t going to shape my face very well.” I was so wrong! The effect of this set is amazing, the colors are so subtle but the effect is dramatic, and I don’t leave the house self conscious about whether I have a dark line across both of my cheeks.  The highlight is far from being white and glittery which we know is a no no. It is a soft taupey pink, and the blush color is a very soft peach, with very fine peach flecks. The blush has little pigment (see swatch on far right) but does just what it says, adds a little bit of color adding a soft glow to the cheeks.

For me Mally’s Shimmer, Shape and Glow is my new must have. I have been using the highlight and shaper in this compact, but switching out the blush colors depending on my mood as the blush in this compact is very light and sometimes I want a little more color.  Shimmer, Shape and Glow retails for $40 and can be purchased on the Mally Beauty website.

*I was sent a sample of Mally Beauty's Shimmer, Shape & Glow to facilitate this review. I was not paid for this review. All opinions are my own and 100% Honest.*

Petitebox Review

Petitebox is from GlossyBox, which happens to be my new favorite monthly beauty subscription service, so I had a feeling that Petitebox would not disappoint. Petitebox is a monthly subscription service for expectant mothers and babies aged 0-12 months. Just like its sister service all samples are truly deluxe, luxury samples. Each Box includes 4-7 samples.  Glossybox is $25 a month and includes free shipping.
“Products are lovingly curated by our team of experts and designed specifically to your stage of pregnancy (from week 17) or age of your baby (up to 12 months old)”

I’m not sure what the age of the baby my box was made for as it’s not listed on the card. Let’s take a look at what was included in my Petitebox:

  • Satsuma Designs: Bamboo Flannel Wash Clothes and Reusable Wipe Duo Full Price $7.00 From bath time to meal time and in between, Satsuma Designs bamboo flannel wash clothes and wipes are the perfect clean up tool.
  • Beaba Babycook Seasoning Ball: Full Size Priced at $4.95; a silicone ball designed to infuse herbs and spices into baby’s homemade food, allowing for the discovery of new tastes while avoiding pieces in baby’s meal.
  • Under The Nile Egyptian cotton Toy: Full Size $8.00; Perfect toy for little hands to grip and safe for little mouths to chew on. Made and stuffed with the finest 100% Organic Egyptian cotton.
  • The Good Home Company Organic Hand Sanitizer: Full Size $6.00; the perfect companion in your purse or diaper bag. This travel sized Hand Sanitizer is a great way to keep your hands clean and fresh smelling.
  • The Good Home Company Sheet and Clothing Spray: Full Size $12.00; Simply Spray this sheet and clothing spray on your pillow case, sheets, or clothing to release a delightful scent for you to enjoy.
  • Artisan Naturals Luxury Skin and Body Care Soothing Aloe Face Cleanser: Full Size $25.00 for 4fl.oz Approx Sample Value is $6.25 1fl.oz;  a mild face wash with lemon and neroli for all skin types that is toxin free and sulfate free, extra gentle in a travel size package.
  • Aloe Baby Tender Defender: Full Size $16.00 4oz, Approx Value of Sample Unknown; Tender Defender provides a bio-active, nutritive layer to support skin as it heals, acting as a base coat beneath barrier creams when rash is present. Use this multi use travel pack for when you are on the go.
Approx Value of this Petitebox is $44.00

I don’t currently have a small baby but if I did I would definitely be subscribed to Petitebox. As I mentioned before, I receive their sister box the Glossybox and I have yet to be disappointed. Great company that truly gives you more than what you pay for and knows what it means to provide deluxe and luxury samples.  That being said Petitebox is currently not excepting new subscriptions, after their June boxes ship they will be going on "maternity leave" to sort out some shipping issues. It is worth getting on the waiting list.

You can subscribe to their Newsletter to be notified when new subscription spots open up. Head to Petitebox’s Website for more information and to sign up for their newsletter.

Mombo Nursing Pillow from Comfort and Harmony Review

"Comfort & Harmony's mombo is everything you'll need in a nursing pillow and much more! The Firm2SoftTM, 2-Sided construction, is uniquely designed to offer distinct benefits on each side. The firm side offers enhanced back support during nursing and just the right elevation for baby. the soft side creates the perfect environment for lounging. The optional vibration helps soothe baby. Use the vibration anytime throughout the day."

When I was nursing my newborn son 3 years ago, I found positioning him into the correct positions for feeding was really difficult. He was a big baby and I struggled a lot with positioning during feedings. I wish that the Mombo from Comfort and Harmony would have been around. It would have been a great help and I would have probably continued to breast feed rather than switching to formula. When I was offered a review for the Mombo I was really excited because I knew someone whom was about to have a baby and was really wanting a nursing pillow. So what does she think of the Mombo?

She loves it. She brought it to the hospital to start using it right away. The firm side helps position baby for comfortable feedings, and she says that Baby seems to be very comfortable in the Mombo as well. Baby is only 3 1/2 weeks so she hasn't yet gotten to using the softer side for lounging and tummy time yet.  Here only complaint is that as a plus size woman the Mombo doesn't fit around her in the way that it should. The Slipcover makes washing it a breeze and of course there are several slipcovers to choose from that suit any style.

Interested in purchasing the Mombo Nursing Pillow? Mombo is $25.49 and sold exclusively at BabiesRus and ToysRus. Slipcovers are sold separately and vary in price from $11 to $22.

*I was sent a sample Mombo for the purposes of this review. I was not paid for this review. All opinions are my own and 100% honest*

The theme of the box that my son and myself received is “Gratitude.” There are so many activities included in this box and Babbabox really does include EVERTHING you will need to do and create all the activities. You will not need to go out and purchase anything. In every Babbabox there are items to help children: Create, Explore, Story Tell, and Connect.  In our Babbabox we received.

I first took our Babbabox aside to take pictures for this blog post. Then I sat my son down and let him open the box. I really wish that I would have recorded his reaction to opening the Babbabox because his excitement over everything in the box was awesome and extremely infectious. The first thing he wanted to do was pull out the camera and take pictures. At 3 his ability to get anything in frame is lacking but with a little help he was able to figure it out.  Then it was on to Creating our Serving Tray. What child doesn’t get excited about painting something, especially when it includes getting to paint their hands? We had such a great time! TOGETHER!

We haven’t gotten to the other activities but I know my son is going to love them.  I really appreciate that not only is he learning but the activities are really thought out and engaging. He may not realize that he is learning but he is. That being said I’m not sure how much he is learning about “Gratitude” from the activities but I know that they are made to improve cognitive skills. He will definitely learn something about Giving Thanks from the book that was included.  I like that all the Create items are going to make really great keepsakes.

There are a few options when subscribing. You can subscribe monthly which is $29.99 a month, Annually which is $299.99(2 Free Boxes), And Babbabox is currently offering The Summer Survival Pack which is $89.97 for the first 3 months and $29.99 after that. SodaStream Review

As much as I hate to admit it, we are big soda drinkers in this house. Spending way more then I’dlike on soda every month. Like a lot of people I’ve seen the commercials for Sodastreamand wondered if the Sodastream really made soda at home that tasted like its manufactured counterparts. This past week I was lucky enough to get to sample Sodastream and several of their flavor mixes.

“Making carbonated water and soft drinks is simple! Turn tap water into sparkling water in under 30 seconds, with no clean-up. Enjoy the freshness and convenience of homemade soda and protect the environment at the same time. No heavy bottles to carry, store at home or throw away. Fizz to your taste and add the flavor of your choice to make your favorite drink. Simple to clean and reuse. With a variety of colors and silhouettes, you'll be sure to find a soda maker to match with any décor”.

We were sent the JetBlack/Silver Fountain Soda Starter Kit. Which retails for $99.95, the fountain soda kit includes: Fountain Jet Home Soda Maker, 1 60 liter Carbonator, 1 Carbonating Bottle, 3 Soda Mix flavors (your choice) - each bottle makes 12 liters of soda, Sodamix Variety 6 pack.
We received a variety of the flavors and types of carbonated beverages that the Sodastream has to offer. The first that we tried out were from their Regular Flavor Selection. In this category there are every soda flavor you can think of, Root Beer, Lemon Lime, Fountain Mist, Cream Soda, Cola, and so many others. I have to say that I’m not crazy about these because they are sweetened with Splenda rather than High Fructose Corn Syrup. Which is great because it makes them a little better for your health, but I am sensitive to Sucralose (Splenda). Artificial Sweeteners give me the worst headaches.
All is not lost though; Sodastream has a Sparkling Naturals Selection. Sparkling Naturals contain no artificial flavors, no artificial colors and no artificial sweeteners.  Sweetened with Cane Sugar. Yes, while the flavor selection for Sparkling Naturals isn’t as large as the Regular Selection it has all my personal favorite flavors, like Root Beer, and Lemon Lime. More flavors coming in this month (June 2012). They are delicious!
We also tried the Energy Drink which tastes exactly like Red Bull.  Another that we really enjoyed was the Sparkling MyWater Essences, which was a great way to entice my son to drink more water on hot days.  We are really enjoying our Sodastream and will be purchasing more liters as we all enjoy different flavors.
Prices for Regular and Natural flavor mixes range from $4.99 to $6.99.  MyWater Essence for Sparkling Water is $9.99 for a 3 pack of flavor essences. Sodastream can be purchased on the Sodastream website as well as many stores such as Bed, Bath and Beyond, Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, and Kohl’s. If you and your family are soda drinkers I highly recommend the Sodastream it makes delicious soda right at home and it is so much cheaper than buying from the grocery store at about 25 Cents a liter.
